This is gorgeous. This piece really captures the mischief-logic of kids, and I love that. Sometimes people (even in nonfiction) manage to make kids wise-cracking little things that are way too sophisticated to quite ring through as 'children'. Here you've done a really good job of keeping it 'real' and simple without making kids sound stupid.

That being said, I'm not exactly sure how old the kids here are. A few hints placing an age or grade level would probably make it easier to picture. More images of the surroundings in general could make that clearer, and I would definitely appreciate a clearer view of the sweets! I'm imagining them right now as little swirly red or green mints, but that's not even the tip of the iceberg of the cheap, kind of terrible candy that makes rounds at school. Did you have a variety, or just one kind at a time?

I think it would be easy to go too far in the descriptive direction, though. The flow of this piece is great. It's quick, snappy and feels right. Slipping in a few physical details shouldn't change that very much, but giving the advice of 'more description' still raises a warning flag in my brain.

Anyway, this piece is great and really made me smile. I'm inexplicably happy that this is non-fiction. Great work!
